After 20 years of trying, a group of four fishermen finally captured a massive 13-foot-long, 680-pound alligator in Texas just two days before hunting season ended, according to the. Robert Hennis, his son Joel Hennis, Rev. John Benandini Jr., and Tommy Strawn pulled the massive reptile from Turtle Bayou, near Anahuac in Chambers County, on Sept. 28.
In Southeast Texas, alligator hunting season runs from September 10-30 every year. The four fishermen captured the huge alligator using legal alligator-harvesting tags provided through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, according to the Bluebonnet News. Joel told the outlet they see the alligator every year a week before the season begins and won't see the beast again until the season is over. He said,"This time, he bit the wrong hook." The group used bayou mullet to catch the somehow elusive creature, which was behind Robert's home, Bluebonnet News reported.
It took four 800-pound paracords to bring the alligator up to the surface of the water, according to the outlet. The alligator broke two lines after the reptile thrashed about and tried to avoid capture, the anglers said.Bluebonnet News reported that Chambers County is known as the Alligator Capital of Texas due to its reptilian population. To critics of alligator harvesting, Joel told Bluebonnet News,"They don't know anything about alligators.
