Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade borrowed a very specific twist from a James Bond movie, but the weird franchise connections don't end there.
While Indiana Jones may not seem that similar to James Bond, the American adventurer did copy one very specific twist from the British super-spy. Indiana Jones and James Bond are very different. Although both characters use quick wit and slick charm to get themselves out of all sorts of trouble, Indiana Jones is more of a fist-fighting man of action while Bond is a smooth-talking spy.

One of Roger Moore’s James Bond movies seemingly inspired a twist featured in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, despite how different the plots of the two movies are. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade centers on Indy’s attempts to save his father from the Nazis and find the Holy Grail along the way.
For Your Eyes Only & The Last Crusade Share A Surprise Villain Twist Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade’s revelation that Julian Glover’s seemingly heroic character Walter Donovan was secretly the villain all along was seen earlier in 1981’s 007 outing For Your Eyes Only. In For Your Eyes Only, Glover plays Aristotle Kristatos, a war hero turned secret arms dealer who is secretly trying to sell military technology to the KGB.
However, that is not the only strange connection between the James Bond franchise and Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade. For one thing, the original James Bond actor Sean Connery plays Indy’s father, which means that Glover’s characters double-crossed two Bond actors in two movies. For another, Glover himself screen-tested for the role of Bond, losing out on replacing Lazenby to Moore.
Indiana Jones & James Bond’s Shared Twists Both Work Glover’s character in Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade character is a lot less suspicious than his For Your Eyes Only villain, making this twist less predictable. In contrast, the now-obvious twist only works in For Your Eyes Only because it was the first time Bond was fooled by an apparent ally.
